Within developed from an interest in the relationship between the figure, soft light and delicate layers of translucent fabric. As the painting evolved, I found myself returning to the quiet gesture of the hand and the way the light gradually reveals the figure without ever giving everything away.
Rather than telling a specific story, I wanted to leave space for the viewer to bring their own interpretation. The smallest adjustments to light, colour and composition became the focus, allowing the painting to settle into the quiet atmosphere I had been searching for.
I’m now looking forward to preparing for a new collection of larger paintings.
